KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni was invited as guest of honor and panelist in an interesting session dedicated to Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) at the H2Asia 2023 Conference, recently.
According to a statement today, the presence of the Demak Laut State Assembly Member at the H2Asia Conference 2023 was the result of a personal invitation delivered by the Norwegian Ambassador to Malaysia Morten Paulsen.
With the exciting theme of "Filling Our Future with H2 and CCUS," the conference, held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, became a hub of innovative ideas and discussions.
During the session, Dr Hazland delved into CCUS Sarawak's ongoing initiatives and prospects designed to position the state as a leader in adopting CCUS technology in the region.
This, he stressed, plays an important role in the global effort against climate change by driving industrial decarbonisation through efficient carbon capture and storage mechanisms.
During his speech, Dr. Hazland emphasized that this initiative is not only in line with Sarawak's commitment to climate action, but also opens new avenues for economic growth.
He attributed this vision to the excellent leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg which highlighted the proactive approach of the government to create a symbiotic relationship between environmental conservation and economic prosperity.
Dr Hazland also emphasized the importance of preparing four Frameworks which include Legal Framework, Technical Framework, Financial Framework, Business & Taxation and Human Resources Framework, before starting the CCUS project and any other Green Project.
In the meantime, Dr. Hazland also extended an invitation to all attendees and encouraged them to participate in the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen 2024 conference scheduled to be held in Kuching in July 2024.
According to him, this event will dive deeper into the field of sustainable energy solutions.
